AFSA, On the Sale of MTPL Insurance Policies

In terms of consumer protection, the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority (AFSA) carried out inspections at MTPL insurance sales points of several insurance companies. Based on the findings of the inspections, the Board of the Authority decided to request the insurance companies to take measures to regulate this situation. As a result of the violations ascertained during the inspection, measures have been taken to suspend the exercise of the activity of an insurance agent and four employees of the insurance companies for a six-month period. In the meantime the activity of another insurance agent was suspended.

The Board's decision states that Compulsory MTPL insurance contracts should only be sold through the online electronic registry and the signing is made only by insurance brokers or by employees of insurance companies licensed by the Authority.

AFSA calls once again on consumers to check their MTPL insurance policy online on the Authority's official website, by filling in the required data. If they do not find their insurance policy contract, they should inform the Authority or other law enforcement agencies in order to avoid abuses. In order to ensure a better protection of the consumer, market progress and respect for the law, the Authority shall conduct on-site inspections on a periodic basis.

Full decisions of the Authority’s Board can be found on AFSA’s official website, at the Publications /Official Bulletin/2017 Section.
