Financial Supervisory Authority publishes the Insurance Geography 2012

Insurance Geography 2012 presents a detailed view of the insurance market in the country, reflecting the distribution of gross written premiums, claims paid and the premium per capita, according to each of the prefectures.

Looking closely at the geographic distribution of gross written premiums it shows that the insurance market is concentrated in the large prefectures, like Tirana with 63.42% of total gross written premiums volume during the year 2012, Durrësi with 7.84%, Fier 5.20% and Shkodër 4.12%. This concentration trend has continued to be the same throughout the years of publication of the report Insurance Geography.

Another important indicator of this market is insurance density. In 2012 this indicator was about ALL 3,200.41 per capita, ALL 263.23 more than the previous year.

Regarding the premium per capita by prefecture, Tirana Prefecture is ranked the first with ALL 7,388.64 per capita, followed by Gjirokastra with ALL 3,648.67 per capita, then Durrës prefecture with ALL 2,622.72 and Vlora prefecture with ALL 1,927.90 per capita.

This report includes detailed information on paid claims during 2012, distributed by prefecture, which enables a comparison of these indicators with those from the previous year. Again, the vast majority of paid claims belong to the prefecture of Tirana with 64.30% followed by prefecture of Durrës with 6.56%.

This is the sixth consecutive year that the Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority introduces this report to the readers. Insurance Geography was published for the first time with the data of 2007 and has continued to be developed and enriched every year.
