Session 1: “Financial Sector Development in Albania - from strengthening stability to supporting economic growth”

The Albanian Financial Supervisory Authority (AFSA), jointly in cooperation with the World Bank and Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), hosted on May 19th the international conference “Diversifying the Financial System through Capital Market Reforms”

The conference was organized in three main panel sessions. The AFSA General Executive Director, Mr. Ervin Mete, was part of the first panel session on “Development of the Financial Sector in Albania - from strengthening financial stability to supporting economic growth", moderated by Mr. Michael Edwards, Senior Financial Sector Advisor at the World Bank. The first discussion panel session also saw the participation of Ms. Delina Ibrahimaj, Minister of Finance and Economy and Mr. Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania.

The panel speakers discussed the role of financial institutions in strengthening stability, diversifying financial markets, as well as opportunities to use the potential of capital markets for the economic development of the country.
